ReceiptSync scans your receipts and pushes the data straight into a spreadsheet like this — no typing. Snap a photo and it's logged and categorized.

A simple spreadsheet is the most reliable way to take control of your money — you own the data, there's no subscription, and it works offline. This template is pre-built so you can start today instead of designing tabs and formulas from scratch. Frequently asked questions

Is zero-based budgeting the same as YNAB?

YNAB (You Need A Budget) is an app built on zero-based budgeting principles. The core method is the same — give every dollar a job — but YNAB adds bank syncing and goal tracking. This free spreadsheet gives you the same methodology without the subscription.

What do I do with leftover money at the end of the month?

In zero-based budgeting, leftover money should have been assigned in advance — to savings, debt payoff, or a sinking fund. If you consistently have unplanned surplus, assign it to your highest-priority goal.

Can I do zero-based budgeting with variable income?

Yes. Use last month's actual income as your budget for this month. If you earn more, assign the extra when it arrives; if you earn less, trim discretionary categories to keep the Zero-Check at zero.

Can I automate the expense tracking?

Yes — ReceiptSync scans your receipts and exports them to your spreadsheet, so the actual columns fill in without manual entry. Skipping the data entry is what causes most zero-based budgets to fail.
